Henderson, Nevada is the second largest city in the state. Only 15 minutes from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, the area known as Henderson is home to unique attractions, shops, restaurants, museums and outdoor adventures. Here are the top 7 things to do in the city of Henderson.

1. Ethel M Chocolates

In 1981, Forrest Mars Sr., “supposedly” retired to Henderson and founded Ethel M Chocolates to honor his mother. In doing so, he created a line of gourmet chocolates that reminded him of how he learned about quality chocolate making. Visit Ethel M Chocolates Factory daily, 8:00 am to 8:00pm and enjoy a 30-minute chocolate tasting tour. While there, walk thru the three-acre cactus garden.

2. Clark County Museum

Located on Boulder Highway in East Henderson, the Museum focuses on Southern Nevada. The exhibits include a recreated ghost town, slot machines, a 1932 Boulder City train depot, vintage cars and much more. If lucky, you may meet Mark P. Hall-Patton, Museum Administrator. Mark is well known as the “Beard of Knowledge” on the hit television show, Pawn Stars.

3. Golfing

Henderson is home to two excellent public golf courses, Chimera Golf Club and Reflection Bay Golf Club. Chimera: The course is always in excellent condition. The views are of the Las Vegas Strip and the nearby rugged mountains. The generous fairways make Chimera a better choice for the higher handicap players. Their restaurant, Slice 19, is a wonderful place for a post round meal and a couple of drinks after. Lake Las Vegas: Just like Chimera, it is always in excellent condition. The course wanders thru the canyons of Henderson with some spectacular holes along the waterfront of Lake Las Vegas itself. This course is a bit more challenging and best suited for the lower handicap players.

4. River Mountain Loop Trail

The 34-mile paved trail is for both biking and walking with a trailhead at Railroad Pass in Henderson. The trail is paved, wide and well maintained. Traveling the entire trail will take you thru Henderson, Boulder City and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep.

5. Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve

The preserve is at the end of Galleria Drive in Henderson and is 140 acres in size. Bird watchers can enjoy walking on paths around nine ponds. Depending on the season, various kinds of birds and other wildlife can be seen. Please do not feed the birds.
