(Pronounced “Car-Men-YEHR”)
Carménère, one of the six noble red grapes allowed in Bordeaux wines, was long forgotten and thought to be extinct. In 1867, the Phylloxera plague all but wiped out Europe’s wine region and it was thought that the varietal Carménère was lost forever. Fortunately, prior to this, cuttings were imported to Chile where the grape was thought to be Merlot. Through modern DNA testing, Carménère was rediscovered and far from being extinct is thriving in Chile. In 1998, the Chilean Department of Agriculture officially recognized Carménère as a distinct varietal.

About The Designer and Builder

Philip KaffkaPhilip Kaffka established Level Development Group in 2004. However, since 1976, Philip has been designing and building custom homes for his family-owned and operated business.
Philip was born in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was the middle son of 3 boys and learned very early on the value of hard work, ethics, and dedication. At 18 years of age, Philip began his construction career working as a carpenter through the Carpenter’s Union, working on schools and other public works projects that consisted of concrete, framing and finish carpentry. At the age of 26, with a wife and 3 children, Philip left his union superintendent position to form Double Eagle Land and Development. Philip takes pride in the fact that the license has been blemish-free since its inception in 1976; an accomplishment rarely seen these days.
